- Biography

I began as a film photographer over 45 years ago
with a 35mm camera and a basement darkroom. I loved to both capture
the image - manipulating time, light, angles and perspective; and
print the image in the darkroom. While raising a family and pursuing a
career, I always had a camera close by to record events. I am now
retired from the Chicago Public Schools and live with my wife in
Winthrop Harbor, Illinois. Several years ago, I changed my format and
I am now all digital. With digital imaging, technology has finally
matched the quality of film. I use a Canon 50D, 15.1 MP camera with a
variety of Ultrasonic and Image-stabilizing lens. I use Adobe Bridge for organization and Photoshop CS4 for image processing. I
print on either an Epson Stylus Photo R2400 or a Canon Pro 9500 Mark
II or i9900 using a
variety of papers. I also capture images using an Epson Perfection
V700 Photo Scanner and a Nikon CoolScan ED Negative Scanner.
I am a member of the Spectrum Gallery in Racine,
Wisconsin where my work is exhibited. You can also view and/or

Artist Statement
-
When you see a photograph, you are looking
through the eyes of the artist at a singular place and time. Never to
be exactly duplicated again. I bring you the world through my eyes and
share the joy of nature, the treasure of a new location or the delight
of a unique face. I began as a photographer as a young teen with my
first 35mm camera. I learned the hidden secrets of the darkroom as my
first image developed before me. After many years and thousands of
images, I found a new way to express my art. The power of the computer
finally balanced the capacity of film to accurately capture an image.
Digital photography allows me to take many more photographs and to
better match the lighting than with traditional film technologies. I
have also begun the long process of converting some of my early work
to digital images as well. Finally Adobe Bridge and Photoshop CS4
has given me a virtual "darkroom" to compose my photos and create a
final work of art. Digital photography has renewed this old
photographers passion for his work and added years of enjoyment to my
craft.
