Spectrum School of the Arts, located at the historic DeKoven Center, Racine, announces its Fall fine arts classes for adults and children.

All classes are small, between four and ten students so that students can benefit from individualized instruction according to their interests, goals and abilities. The inspirational and friendly environment is key in learning for life at Spectrum.



    

Quality Individualized Fine Arts Classes for All!

Adults (High School students welcome)

Ceramics: Fun with Majolica!: Saturdays 9:30 AM – 12:00 noon September 12 – November 14.  Learn a variety of hand-building or wheel- throwing techniques as you work with the colorful, decorative glaze method of Majolica. All levels welcome. Instructor: Mark Hyde. 10 weeks: $160. (includes some clay, all glazes, firings and extra studio time.)

Ceramics: Fun with Low Fire!: Wednesdays, 6:30 – 9:00 PM September 23 – November 11. Tap into your inner sculptor or potter as you enjoy exploring clay and it’s possibilities…including hand-building, throwing pots on the wheel and glazing techniques. All levels welcome. Instructor: Karla Johnston-Krase 8 weeks: $130. (includes some clay,  glazes, firings and extra studio time)

Drawing or Painting Study:

Tuesday evenings, 6:30 – 9:30 PM Sept. 15 – Nov. 17 or Wednesdays, 9:00 AM – 12:00 noon Sept. 16- Nov. 18. Learn for life in this highly individualized class. All levels are welcome as a solid understanding of fundamentals leads to creating your own unique brand of expression with the media of your choice: drawing, watercolor, acrylic or oil painting.  Instructor: Denise Zingg. 5 weeks: 85.; 10 weeks: $150.

Beginning Matting and Framing:

Mondays, 6:30 – 8:30 PM September 20 – October 12. Learn how to select and cut the right mat for any 2 dimensional piece as well as finding the right frame too! Bring 2 or more small (no larger than 11 X 14 in.) pieces the 1st night. Instructor: Denise Zingg. 5 weeks: $85. (includes practice mat board, use of equipment and extra studio time)

Fun with Black and White Film Photography!: Wednesdays, 6:30 – 9:30 PM September 16 – November 18. Get a great understanding of the technical and creative controls of the 35mm camera as you learn about depth of field, shutterspeeds, effective composition, natural light with portraits and more! Take that into the darkroom for the most exciting experience- seeing your print develop right before your eyes! 35mm camera required. Instructor: Denise Zingg 10 weeks: $160.

Work in the Studios: $65. per month for Ceramics, Black and White Darkroom or Matting and Framing Studios.


Children (all materials included)

Creative Clay!: (ages 9 – 12) Saturdays,  10:00 – 12:00 noon September 12 – October 17. Making cool sculpture and pots with clay! – And try out the potter’s wheel, too! (Have your mom, dad, brother, sister, etc. take a class at the same time – see Ceramics: Fun with Majolica!) Instructor: Jennifer Zygmunt. $55.

Mini Monets! : (ages 6 – 10) Saturdays 10:00 – 12:00 noon October 24 – November 21. Try out each painting media: watercolor, tempera and acrylic, in this fun class that combines learning artistic techniques with “sky’s the limit” imagination! Instructor: Denise Zingg. $55.

Scholarships are available for all Adult and Children’s classes based on economic need.
