A
somewhat self-conscious artist statement.
I am
drawn to people and the spaces through which they pass and in which
they live. Roughly, I am a street photographer, looking for that
magic instant whether it frames people or simply the landscapes in
which people live. That instant can be simply a combination of
color and shapes within the environment, a juxtaposition of people
with each other or with objects, individuals alone in space. The
images can be sometimes a close-up of personal features, sometimes a
tableau; sometimes ironic combinations, sometimes man-made objects
or simply shapes and colors that transmit something back to me.
I now
use a Nikon D200 digital camera (used to use a Nikon D70S) and a
small number of different lenses. I tend to reply on a Nikon
35-70mm, and a 80-200mm, both f2.8 throughout. I also use an
18-70mm f3.5-4.5 and less often a 50mm f 1.8. I print my own
photographs with minimal manipulation. I shoot jpeg at this point
but am looking toward shooting in raw soon.
